Siliguri, 31st July: A heartening incident unfolded in Siliguri when a government retired elderly employee fell victim to pickpocketing while shopping at Mahabirsthan market. However, in a remarkable turn of events, the Siliguri police managed to apprehend the pickpocket within a mere three days.
On July 26, Amitabh Chakraborty, a resident of Collegepara, had visited Mahabirsthan market after collecting his pension from a bank at Court More. During his shopping, a cunning miscreant slyly pushed Amitabh Chakraborty from behind and swiftly escaped with a bundle of Rs 500 notes from his bag, amounting to a total of Rs 20,000. Following the incident, Amitabh promptly filed a complaint with the Siliguri police station and also informed Mayor Goutam Deb about the unfortunate occurrence.
In response to the complaint, the Siliguri police took swift action and initiated an intensive investigation. The diligent efforts of the police force led to the arrest of a suspect named Gautam Roy on Sunday. With the assistance of NJP police, the accused was apprehended from Dakshin Shantinagar area. Notably, the stolen sum of Rs 20,000 was also successfully recovered by the authorities.
