Siliguri, 20th December: Siliguri Metropolitan Police recovered a motorcycle that was stolen five years ago and arrested one accused in connection with the case. The recovery was made by personnel of the Khalpara Outpost under the Siliguri Police Station following a late-night operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to police sources, the motorcycle belonging to Krishna Prasad, a resident of the S P Mukherjee Road area, was stolen in November 2020 from the Bata Gali area near Sevoke More.
A complaint was lodged at the Siliguri Police Station at the time, but no leads were found for a long period despite continued investigation.
Acting on a tip-off on Friday night, police conducted a search operation in the Jhankar More and Vivekananda Road adjoining areas and stopped a suspicious motorcycle. Upon verification, it was confirmed that the bike was the same vehicle reported stolen from Bata Gali in November 2020.
The accused has been identified as Pran Krishna Majumdar. He was arrested on the spot and produced before a Siliguri court on Saturday.
Police are investigating whether more individuals are involved in the theft racket and have not ruled out further arrests.
