Stolen gold recovered after 30 days in Siliguri, 2 arrested

Siliguri, 17th November: The Matigara Police have successfully recovered a stolen gold chain after 30 days and arrested two individuals involved in the theft. The arrested suspects have been identified as Ganesh Ghosh and Sahadeb Roy.


According to reports, on the morning of October 23, a woman from the Beldanga area of Matigara was out for a walk when two men on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain near the Tumbajote Jora Bridge. The miscreants fled the scene immediately after and the woman filed a written complaint at the Matigara Police Station.

The police, using CCTV footage, arrested 21-year-old Ganesh Ghosh on October 27 near a Durga temple. After his arrest, he was presented in court and taken on a five-day remand for further questioning. During interrogation, Ghosh revealed the involvement of Sahadeb Roy, a resident of the NJP area.


Based on tip-off, the police learned that Roy was attempting to sell the stolen gold chain in the Siliguri Junction area. As a result, the police raided Pati Colony and arrested Sahadeb Roy on November 16. The officials recovered 10 grams of melted gold from his possession.

On Sunday, both accused were presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
