State-of-the-art laboratory inaugurated at North Bengal University 

Siliguri, 16th May: North Bengal University has taken a significant stride towards advancing research capabilities with the inauguration of the state-of-the-art DST (Department of Science Technology) Central Instrumentation Facility and Computer Lab at the Department of Botany. Today, the acting Vice Chancellor of North Bengal University, Omprakash Mishra, inaugurated the two laboratories. The event was attended by Manoranjan Chowdhary, the Head of the Botany Department, Dean Subhash Chandra Roy, and other officials.


The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has allocated approximately Rs 1.5 crore to facilitate the establishment of cutting-edge laboratories and enhance the department’s infrastructure at North Bengal University. The lab is equipped with advanced tools and equipment, including microscopes, a minus 80-degree storage unit, a carbon dioxide incubator, computers, printers, and other state-of-the-art devices. These high-quality resources not only serve the Department of Botany but also benefit other science departments within the university and neighbouring institutions. Students will have the opportunity to leverage these facilities for their academic and research pursuits.

Vice Chancellor Omprakash Mishra highlighted that in addition to the establishment of advanced laboratories, the professors at the Department of Botany are actively engaged in pioneering research endeavours, further enhancing the overall quality and reputation of the university.
