Siliguri, 04th March: The state government has taken initiatives to take North Bengal’s mushrooms and orchids to the world level. In this regard, a stakeholder meeting was organized at Uttarkanya on behalf of the Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology (Government of West Bengal) on Wednesday. The members of various departments and organizations including Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), North Bengal University were present during the meeting.
Principal Secretary Barun Kumar Roy held a press conference after the meeting concluded. He said that plans have been made to build a biotechnology hub in Kalimpong and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will also be set up. A lab is also present at the North Bengal University where research is conducted on mushrooms and other plants.
