Kharibari, 29th September: In a significant breakthrough, a youth was apprehended with brown sugar in the Panitanki New Market area of the Indo-Nepal border in Kharibari. The accused has been identified as Raben Barman (23), a resident of Manjay Jote.
According to reports, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel of the 41st battalion launched a tip-off operation in Panitanki of Kharibari and apprehended Raben. Subsequently, he was interrogated. Upon initiating a search, 52 grams of brown sugar were recovered from the youth’s possession. The market value of the intoxicating substances is estimated worth lakhs of rupees.
Later, the SSB personnel handed over the accused to the Kharibari police station. On Friday, the accused was produced before the Siliguri Divisional Court. Currently, the police are engaged in further investigation.
