Srabani Dutta removed from MMIC post in Siliguri over altercation following Ganesh Puja immersion

Siliguri, 02nd September: Srabani Dutta has been removed from her post as a Member of the Mayor-in-Council (MMIC) of Siliguri Municipal Corporation following an altercation at Ashram Para in Ward No. 14 after Ganesh Puja immersion. The decision was announced by Mayor Gautam Deb at a press conference in SMC on Tuesday, stating that the action was taken as per directions from the state leadership.


For the time being, Mayor Gautam Deb will handle Dutta’s responsibilities, and a new MMIC will be appointed as per the party’s instructions.

It is to be noted that, on Sunday night, an altercation reportedly broke out at Ashram Para involving Srabani Dutta, some TMC workers, and local residents. Allegations surfaced that she was under the influence of alcohol and that some individuals were assaulted. In retaliation, the SMC vehicle allotted to her was allegedly vandalized. Later that night, Mayor Gautam Deb visited the area.


On Monday, residents also met the Mayor, after which he held discussions with other Councillors and MMIC members, and informed the state leadership. Following their directive, Srabani Dutta was removed from her position.
