Siliguri, 22nd April: World Cup winner Richa Ghosh and former hockey captain Bharat Chhetri were conferred with Nagarik Sambardhana by Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
A program was organized today at Dinbandhu Manch in Siliguri, where Mayor Goutam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, and other council members honored the distinguished athletes. Alongside Richa Ghosh and Bharat Chhetri, two other talents were also felicitated by various sports organizations and clubs in the city.
Expressing their happiness and pride at the recognition, both Richa Ghosh and Bharat Chhetri emphasized the importance of promoting sports and nurturing young talent in Siliguri. Richa Ghosh, who is also set to play as an opener in the upcoming match between Chennai and KKR at Eden Gardens, expressed her excitement to witness the legendary MS Dhoni play from the front.
Meanwhile, Bharat Chhetri proposed the idea of establishing a hockey academy in collaboration with the Siliguri Municipal Corporation to encourage more youth towards the sport. Mayor also highlighted the significance of such programs in motivating the younger generation towards sports and a healthier lifestyle.
