Cooch Behar, 15th January: Cooch Behar is all set to welcome a sports hub on the initiative of the Railways and Sports Youth Welfare Department in the area adjacent to New Cooch Behar Railway Station. Today Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur laid the foundation stone of the said sports hub virtually.
Union Minister Nisith Pramanik, Minister of State for Minority Development John Barla, Football Association of India President Kalyan Choubey and railway officials as well as Greater Cooch Behar Democratic Party leader Anant Maharaj were also present at the foundation stone laying ceremony. Today, the construction work of the sports hub commenced on the land of the New Cooch Behar Railway through Bhoomi Pujan.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Sports and Youth Welfare Department Nisith Pramanik said that this is the first time that the sports hub is being jointly constructed by the Railways and the Sports and Youth Welfare Department. In the first phase, the work of the sports hub will be started at a cost of Rs 75 crores and is expected to be completed by the year 2024. He further said that international-level hockey AstroTurf would also be made in the same. Along with this, arrangements will also be made for archery, table tennis, and injury management.
At the same time, he said that in the first phase, 100-bed accommodation will be provided for the players, and later the number will be increased gradually. Coaches from India and abroad will provide training here.
