Cooch Behar, 08th June: In a tragic incident, Abiram Das (70) was killed by his son, Laxman Das, with an axe on Friday night in Ullar Khawaghat Nayeshwari area of Fulbari I Gram Panchayat, Tufanganj No. 1 Block. The accused son has been arrested by the police.
Local sources reported that deceased Abiram Das had two sons and two daughters. While his daughters and elder son are married, Laxman Das remains unmarried. Allegedly, Laxman had a history of alcohol abuse and threatening behavior towards his father. He had previously set fire to their house, leading the family to admit him to the Tufanganj mental hospital, where he was released after 14 days.
Reportedly, on Friday night, Abiram Das returned home from the market as usual. It is alleged that Laxman attacked and killed him with an axe. When the elder son, Ramachandra Das, returned home, he found his father’s body and Laxman sitting on the kitchen balcony with the axe. Ramachandra called for help, attracting the attention of neighbors.
Further reports indicated that Laxman had dug a pit behind the house, possibly intending to bury his father’s body to destroy evidence. The police from Tufanganj police station arrived at the scene, taking both sons into custody. Ramachandra Das was later released, while Laxman Das remains under arrest. The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
