Naxalbari, 11th March: The Solid Waste Management Unit in Hudubhita, Naxalbari, has finally become operational after remaining inactive for a year.
On Tuesday, Darjeeling District Magistrate (DM) Preeti Goyal and Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh jointly inaugurated the unit.
According to reports, the Solid Waste Management Unit will utilize plastic waste for road construction and biodegradable waste to produce fertilizer.
It was also mentioned that the unit’s operation will significantly benefit the airport, as heaps of garbage are frequently transported from the airport area.
SDO Avadh Singhal and other dignitaries were also present at the inauguration. The District Magistrate stated that after signing the MoU with the Bagdogra Airport Authority, the unit will function smoothly.
