SOG and police uncover drug trade at medicine store in Siliguri, shop owner apprehended

Siliguri, 26th December: A medicine store in the Simulguri area of Samara Nagar was being used as a front for an illegal drug trade. Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and undercover police from Bhakti Nagar police station raided the store and arrested the shop owner, identified as Arjun Sarkar, a resident of Simulguri.


According to police sources, Sarkar operated a medical store near his residence but had been secretly dealing in banned cough syrups and narcotic tablets. During the raid, conducted with officers posing as buyers, the illegal trade was exposed.

The authorities recovered 30 cartons of banned cough syrup and approximately 9,000 narcotic tablets from the accused’s house. The seized drugs are valued at around ₹10 lakh in the market.


A case will be registered against Sarkar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He will be presented before the Jalpaiguri court. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to identify others involved in the operation.
