Smuggling attempt foiled in Naxalbari; SSB seizes 25 buffaloes and arrests four

Naxalbari, 25th November: The SSB foiled a major buffalo smuggling attempt in Naxalbari and seized 25 buffaloes during an early morning operation at Bengai Jote along the Asian Highway.


Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, personnel of the 41st Battalion set up a naka checking point and intercepted a truck coming from Bihar. During inspection, the buffaloes were found inside without valid documents.

The driver, co-driver and two more individuals were detained and later handed over to Naxalbari Police. Based on the SSB’s complaint, the four accused were arrested.


The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Atik and Mohammad Guddu of Bihar, and Mohammad Yakub and Mohammad Suban of Preta Jote in Kharibari.

The accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday. Police have begun investigating whether more individuals are linked to the smuggling network.
