Siliguri, 03rd June: In a significant breakthrough, the cops of the Pradhan Nagar police station have thwarted an attempt to smuggle cannabis by ingeniously hiding packets in the bonnet and seats of a vehicle. The police recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis and arrested the driver, identified as Ranjan Dey, a resident of Balurghat.
Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, the undercover officers launched an operation on Hill Cart Road near Mahananda Bridge. Upon stopping and searching the suspicious vehicle, the police discovered five packets of cannabis concealed under the bonnet and seats. The total weight of the recovered item has been estimated to be around 35 kg, with a market value running into lakhs.
According to police sources, the cannabis was being transported from Cooch Behar to Siliguri Junction. However, the timely intervention by the police prevented the completion of the smuggling plan.
On Monday, the accused has been produced before the Siliguri court, while further investigation is underway.
