Siliguri, 14th December: A bike-borne mule, while trying to smuggle a rare species of turtle accidentally dropped the reptile in Siliguri’s Rabindra Nagar area. The incident created a stir in the area.
While the smuggler fled away from the spot, the locals rescued the turtle and brought the matter to local Ward Councilor Kuntal Roy’s notice. The councillor reached the spot and informed the police and forest department. Later, the forest personnel reached the spot and took the turtle into their possession.
In this regard, Councilor Kuntal Roy stated that the turtle was being transported for smuggling but the smuggler could not succeed in his plan. Roy added that police and forest department are looking into the whole matter.
It is to be noted, the Forest Department rescued two rare species of turtles from a house in Siliguri a few days ago. With today’s incident, the personnel have swung into action to bust the racket.
