Siliguri, 16th November: Siliguri Municipal Corporation used a bulldozer to remove a warehouse built on encroached land near Bengal Bazar area under Ward No. 42, on Wednesday. A team of cops from Bhakti Nagar police station was also present on the spot.
Reportedly, the locals complained to the SMC regarding the illegal construction. Acting promptly, the SMC asked the godown owner to submit the necessary documents. However, after getting no response from the owner’s end despite sending multiple notices, the SMC demolished the godown today.
Speaking in this regard, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia said that necessary documents for the godown were sought from the owner. When the owner did not comply with the instruction, the SMC had no other option than to bring down the illegal construction as per the instructions of the High Court. He further said that the campaign against illegal construction in the city should continue.
