SMC Opposition leader Ranjan Sarkar protests over Siliguri’s railway land encroachment

Siliguri, 27th February: The railway department took initiatives to remove encroachment in the railway land across the Tikiapara area near the New Cinema Hall on Thursday. The traders were dismayed by the railway’s decision as no prior information regarding the eviction and demolition was provided to them.

The traders then staged a protest at the Railway office. After the incident, the opposition leader of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) Ranjan Sarkar reached the spot and held discussions with the railway department and demanded rehabilitation.

The traders alleged the Railway Department of being biased and stated that no actions were taken against the other shop owners which are also built on railway lands.
