Siliguri, 05th August: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has once again launched a campaign against encroachment. On Monday, the corporation workers demolished unauthorized constructions from Tinbatti More to Jalpai More, prompting businessmen to gather in a protest against the campaign.
As per reports, the campaign encountered a massive obstacle when it reached the Jalpai More area as people began vehemently protesting and stopped the campaign midway. However, later after the intervention of the police-administration, the corporation resumed the demolition drive. Meanwhile, the traders were outraged over the campaign and stated that the corporation has proceeded with the campaign without the provision of prior notice.
A tea seller expressed his frustration alleging mistreatment by the TMC party due to the BJP’s recent electoral success in the area. Similarly, a bag shop owner highlighted the impact on his livelihood, essential for supporting his wife suffering from kidney disease. Additionally, a fast-food shop owner criticized the Municipal Corporation for demolishing her establishment without adequate warning. She accused the municipal authorities of unfair treatment and voiced her discontent.
