SMC notifies management after stagnant water in Siliguri mall sparks dengue concerns

Siliguri, 09th August: The recent death of a girl in Siliguri’s Ward No. 07 due to dengue has put the city of Siliguri on high alert. The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) issued a notice to the mall management over the stagnant water allocated on the roof of the mall contributing to the dengue outbreak in the area.

With dengue cases on the rise, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has intensified its efforts to prevent the spread of the disease. Despite issuing guidelines and urging citizens to maintain cleanliness and prevent water stagnation, many areas in the city continue to grapple with waterlogging issues after rainwater allocation.

A similar incident has emerged from a shopping mall on Sevoke Road, where stagnant rainwater was spotted on the rooftop. The SMC had initially visited the mall to demolish an unauthorized construction but was alarmed by the presence of stagnant water. Subsequently, the SMC notified the matter to the mall management.

Meanwhile, the matter was informed to Chairperson Borough Committee No. 05 Pritikana Biswas who inspected the site and issued a notice to the mall management for the immediate removal of the stagnant water. Biswas stated that the corporation would take strict action against the mall if it failed to comply with the notice.
