Siliguri, 20th February: On Tuesday, Mayor Goutam Deb presented the budget at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). Significantly, no new tax was imposed on the city dwellers. However, the Mayor presented a deficit budget of Rs 10 crore 53 lakhs.
According to reports, this year the Mayor presented a budget of Rs 618 crore. Simultaneously, the Councillors of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Left (CPIM) opposed the budget presented by the Trinamool board. In the budget, the Mayor primarily emphasized departments including health, sports, environment, and waste disposal.
In this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb stated that the work of the board has increased in the Public Work Department and the health department is also being emphasized. A polyclinic would be established and USG Machines would be installed. Furthermore, he stated that there has been an increase in the allocation in the sports field. Kanchenjunga Stadium along with the Indoor stadium would be renovated. He added that football and table tennis academies would also be set up.
