Siliguri, 22nd January: Despite the ban on plastic and polythene in Siliguri, the use of polythene continues to be rampant in various shops. To address this, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has once again launched a campaign against banned plastic carry bags.
On Wednesday, officials and employees of the Municipal Corporation, along with the Khalpara TOP Police, conducted raids on three warehouses located in the Khalpara and Naya Bazar areas of Wards 08 and 09 in Siliguri.
During the operation, over 500 sacks of banned plastic carry bags were seized. Each sack contained an estimated 30 to 40 kg of plastic carry bags. The primary goal of this campaign is to protect the environment from plastic pollution and to keep the city clean and beautiful.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has made it clear that any form of negligence will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules.
