Siliguri, 25th January: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has launched another campaign to clear sidewalks of encroachments.
On Saturday, the sidewalks from Court More to the Hospital were cleared of encroachments. Although the Municipal Corporation had periodically cleared the sidewalks in the past, traders would later resume their business on the sidewalks, defying the administration. This often led to massive traffic jams, which required intervention from the police to clear the congestion.
On Saturday, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation once again took action, demolishing all shops set up on the sidewalks.
Siliguri Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar stated that the eviction campaign would continue without interruption. He emphasized that their primary goal is to rid the city of encroachments and create a beautiful, unobstructed environment for the public.
