SMC initiates several developmental works before Puja

Siliguri, 10th October: Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken the initiative to undertake many developmental works in the city ahead of the Durga Puja. Ashok Bhattacharya, chairman of board of administrators of SMC, informed regarding a number of projects prepared ahead of the pujas.

It is to recall, a few days ago, Darjeeling Trinamool district president Ranjan Sarkar expressed outrage over the role of Siliguri Municipal Corporation ahead of the pujas. He alleged that while SMC takes several initiatives every year before Durga puja, no such steps have been taken so far, this year. No road repair work has been done after the monsoons and no allowances were paid to the needy. Hence, the opposition co-ordinators of SMC approached Ashok Bhattacharya concerning these issues.

Following this, several projects have been initiated on behalf of the SMC, including cleaning up garbages in the city, supply of drinking water, repair of roads, construction of Puja Ghats and payment of arrears to the needy. Bhattacharya maintained that efforts will be made to complete all the works before the puja.
