SMC initiates against unauthorized construction following High Court orders in Pradhan Nagar’s Nivedita Road

Siliguri, 22nd December: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), continuing its action against unauthorized construction, demolished illegal constructions on Nivedita Road located in Pradhan Nagar, Siliguri. The move was initiated by the SMC following the High Court orders.

According to reports, a petition was filed at the High Court against several unauthorized constructions on the road. Following the court orders, the demolition work was initiated in the presence of the Pradhan Nagar police on Friday morning. The unauthorized constructions included houses, shops, restaurants, and cafes. About 22 unauthorized constructions were demolished by the SMC.

Earlier, SMC Mayor Goutam Deb had raised his concern regarding unauthorized construction in the city. The Mayor had mentioned that legal actions would be taken against illegal construction. It has to be noted that the SMC had demolished illegal constructions at several locations in the city, previously.

On this day, as the demolition work began at Nivedita Road, a huge crowd gathered. Later, a huge contingent of police arrived and brought the prevailing situation under control, amid severe traffic congestion.
