Siliguri, 28th August: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) initiated the removal of illegal constructions on encroached government lands in Siliguri. It has to be noted that, a few months ago action was initiated on the encroachment of PWD land along the roadside in the Eastern Bypass area under the Bhakti Nagar Police Station. However, encroachment activities started once again.
As per reports, On Monday, the SMC officials arrived at Eastern Bypass with 4 JCBs and subsequently removed the illegal encroachments. During the process, a large contingent of forces from Bhakti Nagar Police Station was also deployed.
As per the information revealed by the SMC, a total of 9 illegally constructed shops were removed. They added that prior notice had been provided several times to vacate the place, however, no attention was provided to the notices by the offenders, for which, action has been taken. In this regard, the police administration was also instructed to ensure that government lands are not encroached further.
