Siliguri, 18th August: In a proactive initiative, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) inaugurated a new chess academy in Siliguri earlier on Sunday. The academy is located near the Siliguri Indoor Stadium.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, Chess Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, Ward Councillor and MMIC, Dilip Barman, and other dignitaries.
Additionally, an open chess tournament was organized by the Dooars Human Care Society in collaboration with the Darjeeling District Chess Association and the Municipal Corporation. The tournament featured competitions in three age groups; under-9, under-12, and under-16, with approximately 120 participants competing.
