Siliguri, 13th September: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) conducted a meeting on the upcoming Durga Puja Carnival, amid tensions over the R.G. Kar incident.
Reportedly, the meeting, held on Friday, brought together various clubs from Siliguri. The discussions were led by Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, along with police and administrative officials. Multiple aspects of the carnival were addressed during the session.
Mayor Deb stated that the meeting focused on preparations for the Puja Carnival. Clubs planning to participate were asked to submit relevant details, and efforts are being made to ensure the carnival is organized smoothly, as it has been in the past two years.
In light of the R.G. Kar incident, club members expressed their concerns, calling the situation tragic and voicing their desire for justice. However, they emphasized that Durga Puja is a festival for all, and not holding the celebration would negatively affect many underprivileged people.
They affirmed their commitment to organizing the puja while keeping the welfare of the poor in mind. Additionally, they called for justice for ‘Tilottama’ in connection with the R.G. Kar issue.
