Siliguri, 20th August: On Tuesday, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished a decorator’s warehouse that was constructed in the Shivrampally area of Ward No. 40 without proper authorization.
According to reports, the SMC had notified the warehouse owner twice regarding the demolition of the construction. The owner partially complied and the full demolition could not be carried out. As a result, the SMC had to take matters into its own hands and execute the demolition.
However, during the demolition drive, there was a disagreement between the owner and SMC officials. The owner claimed that they had removed the illegal construction as per the notices and submitted a report to the corporation.
Meanwhile, the corporation had not specified the requirement for complete removal at that time. The sudden decision to demolish the entire godown led to the owner’s discontent.
