Siliguri, 31st January: Within a few days of the construction of concrete drains, traders and hawkers have already started occupying the drain with their business. The mayor and deputy mayor of Siliguri, after visiting the area on Tuesday, have directed the traders to move out from the drain.
Reportedly, a concrete drain has been constructed by PWD on Sevoke Road of Ward No. 10 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. However, as soon as the drain was made, the traders started the business by keeping the goods of the shop.
Mayor Goutam Deb, Deputy-Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, No. 5 Borough Chairman Pratikana Biswas, and the employees of the corporation arrived today for its inspection. Seeing the condition of the drain after inspection, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Siliguri instructed the businessmen to empty the illegal occupancy on the drain.
In this regard, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar said that the drain has been made by PWD. However, some businesspeople are conducting their businesses by illegally occupying the drain. The businesspeople have been instructed to empty the drain. If they do not comply with the instructions within two days, action will be taken by the corporation.
