Siliguri, 04th July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) carried out an operation and demolished an unauthorized construction in Ward No. 05. Reportedly, no action was taken against the construction encroached upon a significant portion over the sewer despite repeated notices issued by the SMC. As a result, the SMC took matters in its own hands and demolished the construction.
According to reports, the operation commenced, early on Thursday, in the presence of law enforcement officers from Khalpara outpost and a substantial police team. Meanwhile, the owner of the construction expressed his frustration towards the demolition drive. He questioned the administration for not taking necessary actions against the several other constructions occupying the land over sewers across the area.
Over the past few weeks, the SMC has launched a sustained anti-encroachment drive against unauthorized constructions across the city. Several such constructions have been demolished under the directives of the High Court.
