Siliguri, 24th June: Tension gripped Surya Sen Colony of Ward No. 34 as the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished an unauthorized construction under High Court orders, leaving the owners in distraught.
According to reports, the owner of the construction worked as a rickshaw puller and managed to afford the construction with his hard-earned money. On the other hand, the SMC received a complaint about a construction, built without proper authorization, in Surya Sen Colony a few days ago.
Following legal procedure, the High Court ordered the demolition of the construction. As a result, the SMC carried out a demolition drive and the establishment was demolished earlier on Monday.
Meanwhile, the house owners and local residents pled the SMC workers and the local police. Councillor Biman Tapadar arrived on site to intervene in the matter. However, the demotion was executed under the directives of the High Court.
