SMC demolished unauthorized construction on a building following court orders in Siliguri’s Ward No. 34

Siliguri, 09th December: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished unauthorized construction on a building following court orders in Siliguri’s Ward No. 34.

It has to be noted that, Mamata Roy had constructed a two-storey building in Surya Sen Colony in SMC’s Ward No. 34, after availing a two-storey plan from the Municipal Corporation. However, a roof was allegedly constructed illegally against the plan received from the SMC. The matter was reported to the Municipal Corporation by a neighbor.

Subsequently, a case was registered in the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court. During the court hearing, Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay directed the Municipal Corporation to demolish the unauthorized construction by December 11. Acting on the instruction, the SMC began the work for the demolition of the illegal structure. According to sources, the Municipal Corporation had sent three notices to Mamata Roy regarding illegal construction.

In this regard, Mamata Roy’s daughter alleged that the construction was carried forward based on the instruction of the neighbor. She added that, later, the neighbor filed a complaint in court due to some differences, which prompted the demolition.
