SMC conducts drive to clear encroached footpaths in Siliguri

Siliguri, 08th April: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) conducted a drive to clear footpaths in the areas adjacent to Bhutia Market and Seth Srilal Market in Siliguri.

On Tuesday morning, the areas adjacent to Bhutia Market and on East Bengal Road and Tilak Road were cleared of encroachment.

Reportedly, about 18 shops on the footpaths were demolished. Additionally, a trader who had been illegally running a shop in Seth Srilal Market for many days had the illegal part of that shop demolished as well.

In this regard, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar stated that some traders were encroaching on the footpaths of the road and running shops, which caused traffic problems. He added that earlier, the Municipal Corporation had also conducted a drive to clear footpaths. The road to Bhutia Market is the busiest road, so the footpaths were cleared of encroachment today.
