SMC Board of Administrators take stock of Fulbari Water Project following drinking water problem

Siliguri, 05th September: Siliguri has been facing an acute problem in drinking water supply for the last few days. To solve the issue promptly, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Administrator Goutam Deb accompanied by BoA members visited the Fulbari Water Project today and took stock of the situation. Deb interacted with the officials and engineers and discussed restoring the drinking water supply in the city at the earliest.

Addressing the media, SMC Administrator stated that the water supply in Siliguri city has been disrupted due to a mechanical problem in the plant. He accused the previous municipal board of not taking any initiative for mechanical repairs of the water project despite it is one of the most important sources of drinking water of the city. Deb blamed the negligence of the former board for the problem being faced by the city at present.

“The project In-charge and staff are working day and night. The water supply is expected to be normal within two days,” Deb added. Furthermore, the Gajoldoba Mega Water Project will likely be set up to supply drinking water to Siliguri city and its adjoining areas. For this, a project proposal of Rs 470 crore has been handed over to the state government. The Siliguri Administrator assured that the work will commence as soon as the project is sanctioned.
