Siliguri, 29th December: The last board meeting of the year was held in the absence of Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb under the management of Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and Chairman Pratul Chakraborty.
According to reports, Mayor Goutam Deb is currently undergoing treatment for a physical ailment. Meanwhile, Chairman Pratul Chakraborty and Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar met with the board of directors of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
During the meeting, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar addressed all questions of the opposition. CPIM councilor Nurul Islam highlighted concerns about traffic congestion, stray dog sterilization, the removal of Surya Sen Park monuments, and unauthorized construction. At the same time, opposition leader Amit Jain raised concerns about the water crisis.
In response to concerns from the opposition, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar stated that the statues in the Surya Sen Park were left neglected and thus removed following the Statue Committee’s orders. However, the statues will once again be erected in appropriate locations throughout the city.
In addition, other solutions have been implemented to address the issue of traffic congestion. The deputy mayor further emphasized the SMC’s lead in the sterilization of stray canines.
