Siliguri, 20th June: Panic gripped residents of Shiv Mandir in Siliguri on Thursday night after a siren suddenly went off inside a bank near the Shiv Mandir bus stand, even though the bank was closed.
According to reports, the bank staff had completed their work and left earlier in the evening. However, around 9:00 p.m., the siren began to sound unexpectedly. Alarmed by the noise, which continued for nearly 30 minutes, locals rushed out of their homes and informed the Matigara police.
Police personnel quickly arrived at the scene. Soon after, bank officials also reached and switched off the alarm. The bank authorities later clarified that the siren was triggered by a mechanical fault and no suspicious activity was detected.
The incident sparked heightened concern among residents in the wake of recent ATM robbery cases in Maynaguri and Siliguri.
