SIR hearings begin in Rajganj, voters face difficulties over lack of documents

Rajganj, 29th December: The SIR hearing process has begun in Rajganj, with voters facing difficulties due to the lack of required documents.

Since Monday morning, long queues and heavy crowds were witnessed at the Rajganj BDO office premises as people from various gram panchayat areas arrived to participate in the hearings.

According to sources, voters attended the hearings to address issues related to errors in the SIR list, deletion of names from the voter list, address corrections, and discrepancies in family details. Many were seen standing in queues from early morning, resulting in inconvenience.

Several voters reported that despite reaching the hearing centre, they did not possess all the documents sought by the authorities. Some said they never attended school and therefore do not have school certificates, while others stated that they were born at home and could not obtain birth certificates.

Many also claimed that they had migrated from Assam and, with their parents having passed away long ago, arranging the necessary documents has become difficult.

Joint BDO Sourav Kanti Mondal informed that 5,404 voters from the Rajganj Assembly constituency and 32,659 voters from the Fulbari Assembly constituency are covered under the SIR hearing process.

He clarified that the process is being conducted as per the Election Commission of India’s guidelines, which specify 13 acceptable documents, and added that help desks have been set up to assist voters.
