Naxalbari, 27th December: A family in Naxalbari has been left worried after a SIR hearing notice was delivered in the name of their daughter, who is currently away for work.
Pooja Rai, a voter from Paschim Sukanta Nagar in Part 48 of Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat, Matigara-Naxalbari constituency, resides in Delhi due to her employment. On 25th December, the SIR hearing notice addressed to Pooja Rai reached her home.
Since receiving the notice, the family has been anxious. On Saturday, Pooja’s parents visited the Naxalbari BDO office, where they were informed that the voter’s personal presence is mandatory. This has raised concerns that their daughter’s name could be removed from the voter list.
Pooja’s father, Shant Kumar Rai, stated that his daughter could not attend due to work commitments and requested the administration to provide additional time so that Pooja could personally participate in the hearing.
Meanwhile, a Gram Panchayat member alleged that voters are being unnecessarily troubled. Many people reside elsewhere due to work and should be given extra time to attend hearings.
He added that a written application regarding the matter will be submitted to the District Magistrate and the Election Commission.
