Siliguri, 11th December: The Pradhan Nagar police of Siliguri Metropolitan Police has recovered a stolen silver idol of Baba Loknath and arrested the accused, maintaining public faith and trust. The arrested individual has been identified as Vijay Mahato (25), a resident of Prakash Nagar under Bhakti Nagar Police Station.
According to reports, in the early hours of 6th December, the silver idol, weighing approximately 1 kg and valued at around ₹2 lakh, was stolen from a home temple in Ganesh Ghosh Colony, Ward No. 46. The homeowner filed a written complaint at Pradhan Nagar Police Station following the theft.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the police arrested Vijay Mahato from the Prakash Nagar area on Wednesday night. Following intensive interrogation, the silver idol of Baba Loknath was recovered from the accused’s residence.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri Court on Thursday. The police continue to investigate the case further.
