Siliguri, 02nd June: The issue of the drinking water crisis in Siliguri has been resolved as purified drinking water has been flowing into the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) area since this afternoon. However, residents are still skeptical regarding the quality of water.
Reportedly, Mayor Gautam Deb assured the public at a press conference in SMC that the drinking water being supplied since this afternoon is safe for consumption. Following this announcement, water distribution commenced across various parts of the city. Despite this, a sense of unease persists among the residents regarding the water’s safety.
The recent water crisis occurred on May 29, when Mayor Gautam Deb, in a press briefing, prohibited the consumption of water supplied by the municipality due to quality concerns. Consequently, Siliguri witnessed a severe shortage of drinking water, prompting the installation of water tankers and the distribution of water pouches. However, the situation has returned to normalcy on Friday afternoon.
