Siliguri, 29th October: Sandhani Club in Siliguri has begun preparations for Kali Puja with ‘Khutti Puja’. The main attraction this year is the ‘Potchitro Kotha’ theme, which will showcase Bengal’s folk art, culture and heritage.
This year marks the 51st edition of Sandhani Club’s Kali Puja. Through this theme, the organisers aim to bring the traditional art of Patachitra to life through modern pandal decorations. Traditionally, Patuas in Bengal’s villages used scroll paintings to depict the glory of deities, mythological stories and various aspects of social life.
Sandhani Club Puja Committee Secretary Abhijit Haldar said the main objective of the theme is to introduce the younger generation to Bengal’s roots and its fading folk traditions. The pandal will feature Patachitra artwork, earthen pitchers and depictions of mythological stories. Lighting arrangements will also highlight different aspects of Bengal’s traditional folk art.
With a focus on Bengal’s cultural roots and heritage rather than grandeur alone, Sandhani Club hopes to win the hearts of visitors with its Kali Puja celebrations this year.
