Siliguri’s Ram Krishna Vedanta Ashram sannyasi receives SIR hearing notice

Siliguri, 30th December: A sannyasi (monk) of Siliguri’s Ram Krishna Vedanta Ashram in Pradhan Nagar has received a SIR hearing notice regarding his parental names.

The sannyasi, Raghunandan Maharaj, initiated into the Rama Krishna Math, said that after taking diksha, biological parents’ names cannot be used. In their tradition, ‘Ramakrishna Dev’ is used as the father’s name and ‘Maa Sarada’ as the mother’s name. He added that even his Indian government-issued passport records his parents’ names in this way.

Trinamool leader Bedabrata Dutta criticized, saying that the party which often speaks on Hindu religious matters is now questioning the identity of sannyasis under its governance in the name of SIR.

On the other hand, BJP Siliguri organizational district IT cell in-charge Dipankar Kundu stated that SIR follows a standard procedure, requiring all individuals receiving notices to verify their documents.

He added that even the Prime Minister or Chief Minister must comply with the same rules. He accused some political parties of misrepresenting the issue to protect their Bangladeshi vote bank.
