Siliguri’s Kiran Chandra Burning Ghat receives second electric stove, inaugurated by Mayor Goutam Deb

Siliguri, 17th April: On Monday, Mayor Goutam Deb inaugurated the second electric stove at Kiran Chandra Burning Ghat. It has been reported that the initiative to construct an electric stove at the cremation ground in Siliguri was taken by former Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya. Initially, the service began with two stoves, but later one of them got damaged. Consequently, the cremation process was being carried out with only one stove.

The residents of the city had to bear the brunt due to the decreased capacity at the Kiran Chandra Burning Ghat. To alleviate the pressure, the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) constructed an alternative stove at Sahudangi. However, the pressure on Kiran Chandra cremation ground did not subside even after this. Subsequently, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation took the initiative to construct another electric stove, which was completed expeditiously.

Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation Goutam Deb inaugurated the second electric stove today. During this, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, Ward No. 01 councillor Sanjay Pathak and other board members were present. Mayor Goutam Deb stated that in response to the demands of the people, the second stove has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.53 crore. Additionally, there are some other works that will be completed shortly.
