Siliguri, 30th December: The growing number of large hoardings and electronic kiosks across Siliguri has sparked concerns over the city’s aesthetics. These advertisements, prominently displayed on street poles and other public spaces, are reportedly spoiling the beautification efforts. Allegations have also surfaced regarding private companies using electricity for these displays without clear authorization.
In response to the lack of action by the administration, the Legal Aid Forum has filed a case in the Consumer Court. Amit Sarkar, president of the organization, criticized the administration for not addressing these illegal activities, which he claims are tarnishing the city’s appearance.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Amit Jain, also condemned the administration, accusing the Municipal Corporation of being indifferent to ongoing illegal activities. He described the Corporation as ‘a complete failure,’ focused only on superficial improvements.
In contrast, Ranjan Sarkar, Deputy Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, assured that the matter would be investigated promptly.
