Siliguri’s cleaning staff on a strike, traders take to the streets with brooms

Siliguri, 18th February: The Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti has been protesting for a long time in support of several demands. Due to the strike, the city’s cleanliness work has been discontinued and the common people are facing trouble due to the stench from the untended garbage.

In view of this, the members of Seth Srilal Market Vyavasayee Samiti took to the streets today with brooms in their hands to clean the market premises.

On behalf of the Vyavasayee Samiti, Khokon Bhattacharya urged the traders to collect all garbage in packets until the cleaning staff return to work. He also requested the traders to keep the streets clean.

Sagar Kabir, on behalf of Seth Srilal Market Tailoring Owners Association, said that the way in which the cleaning staff is protesting is not acceptable. He said that the city should not be polluted by throwing garbage on the streets.
