Siliguri, 02nd January: A massive rush of tourists was witnessed at North Bengal’s Bengal Safari Park on the first day of the New Year 2026. According to official sources, more than 6,600 visitors entered the park on New Year’s Day and enjoyed the jungle safari, turning the entire premises lively with tourist activity.
Reportedly, on the occasion of the New Year, the park generated revenue of around ₹10 lakh. However, despite the heavy footfall and a strong start to the year, the park failed to surpass last year’s New Year revenue record of over ₹11 lakh. Park authorities had expected a new record this year, especially after a significant rise in tourist numbers during Christmas.
The results, however, did not match expectations. Officials noted that although the number of visitors increased, the average revenue per tourist declined compared to the previous year.
Bengal Safari Park Director E. Vijay Kumar said that both Christmas and New Year were good days for the park in terms of visitor turnout. He added that while the park earned ₹10 lakh on New Year’s Day, it could not break last year’s record despite expectations of higher revenue.
Being the only safari park in North Bengal, the attraction drew visitors from far-off places on New Year’s Day. Tourists were seen enjoying wildlife sightings and celebrating the beginning of the year with family and friends. While the management is pleased with the large turnout, the drop in revenue has prompted discussions on new strategies to attract tourists and improve earnings in the coming days.
The park authorities expressed hope that the arrival of new attractions in the future will further boost visitor numbers at Bengal Safari Park.
