Siliguri, 13th August: Owing pressure from lenders to clear the loan, a youth from Siliguri’s Netaji Nagar allegedly committed suicide. The deceased had taken the loan from a micro-finance company, a few months ago.
Reportedly, the lifeless body of Biki Prasad Kanu, a resident of Siliguri Salugara’s Netaji Nagar, was found hanging from a noose in a nearby ground on August 8. The family members alleged that a few months ago, he took a loan of 38 thousand rupees from a microfinance company and was paying in instalments. After repaying all the instalments in July, he took another loan of 11 thousand rupees.
They further stated that an employee of the finance company started pressurizing Biki as he was unable to pay the two-week instalment. Reportedly, he was living under severe crisis as his tea shop was closed amid the lockdown.
When he sought some relaxation from the lender, the said employee allegedly pressurized him to repay the loan constantly. Following this, Biki hung himself.
Rakesh Prasad, a relative of the deceased, alleged that he committed suicide as he was unable to bear the mental pressure concerning loan repayment. A complaint has been lodged at the Bhaktinagar Police Station after the incident. Police are investigating the matter.
