Siliguri, 25th July: A distressing incident has come to the fore where a youth was brutally physically assaulted in public over suspicions of being a kidnapper. The incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Jamurivita area under the jurisdiction of the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police Station.
According to reports, the incident took place after rumors of abduction had circulated in the city for several days. Although the police have stated that there is no evidence of kidnapping in the reported incident, the residents are gripped with panic and concern. Despite efforts by the police to curb these rumors, the city is grappling with fear.
In the recent case, local residents reportedly assaulted a youth, suspecting him to be involved in kidnapping a child. Upon receiving the information, officials from the NJP police station promptly arrived at the scene and took the youth into custody. Locals alleged that the youth was attempting to abduct a child before he was apprehended. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
