Siliguri, 01st March: The name of Indian women’s cricket team World Cup winner Richa Ghosh has reportedly been placed under the ‘Under Adjudication’ category in the voter list, triggering political reactions in Siliguri.
It is also being reported that her sister, Shomasree Ghosh, has been included in the same category.
Following the development, questions have been raised on the role of the Election Commission by leaders from both Left parties and the ruling camp.
Richa’s father, Manabendra Ghosh, said that she spends most of the year outside the state or country due to cricket commitments. During the SIR process, a hearing notice was issued in her name. The ward’s BLO submitted the required documents online, but the issue remained unresolved. Even after the publication of the final list, both sisters continue to be listed under the ‘Under Adjudication’ category.
On Sunday morning, Ward No. 19 Councillor Mousumi Hazra visited Richa’s residence and expressed anger against the Election Commission.
She termed the situation “shameful,” stating that a player who has brought glory to the country is now marked as ‘Under Adjudication’ in the voter list.
She further questioned the condition of ordinary citizens if an international player faces such a situation and warned of a protest march to the SDO office on Monday.
Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb also reacted sharply, stating that Richa is a pride not only for Siliguri but for the entire country. He described the matter as an example of negligence on the part of the Election Commission and alleged that it is functioning at the behest of the central government.
He added that the party leadership has been informed about the issue.
