Siliguri, 08th September: In a significant development, the police have apprehended the alleged lover of a woman whose lifeless body was found hanging from a noose in a rented house under mysterious circumstances. The arrested individual has been identified as Soubhik Das.
The deceased, Kakali Mandal, had been married to another man about a decade ago but left her husband to live with Soubhik Das for the past year. The couple rented a house in the Jyoti Nagar area, under Siliguri Municipal Corporation’s Ward No. 41. Kakali had severed all connections with her family. The unsettling incident unfolded on Wednesday when the lifeless body of Kakali was found hanging from a noose. Bhaktinagar police swiftly responded to the scene and recovered the deceased’s body.
The next day, following a post-mortem examination conducted at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), the body was returned to the family. It was at this point that the family of the deceased, accompanied by her husband, staged a protest by placing Kakali’s body in front of her lover’s residence.
During the protest, Kakali’s father and husband made grave allegations, asserting that Soubhik Das had been responsible for her death and had attempted to stage the incident as a suicide. They also leveled accusations against Soubhik’s parents, claiming their involvement in the crime. They demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
On Friday, the accused, Soubhik Das, was presented before the Jalpaiguri Court. Meanwhile, the police are conducting further investigations to shed light on the perplexing circumstances surrounding Kakali Mandal’s tragic demise.
